10 Years Advent Choral Festival Prague 1999-2008

You can compare only a few European cities with the capital of Bohemia, the “Golden Town” Prague, with its immense historical and cultural heritage and where you can meet the European history. Its musical tradition is omnipresent in concert halls, but also in the streets and taverns. Smetana, Dvorak and Mozart are part of this cultural richness, just like today’s composers as Petr Eben and Zdenek Lukac.

Idyllic concerts are in the lovely Art Nouveau concert hall of the Prague choral society Hlahol (voice), where Bedrich Smetana was one of the first choir directors. After a performance of several choirs from different countries there is a common singing of all participants. Another concert hall is in the Academy of Music HAMU in the Liechtenstein Palace with a wonderful concert organ.

We recommend you Prague for your Christmas shoring in one of the large malls in the centre of the city or in the small shops in the Old Town.

The Old Town Square of Prague is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. The open air platform is situated in the middle of the Christmas Market with Bohemian glass and bijouterie and Christmas gifts. During the weekends a lot of people come to listen choirs from all over the world. Heated containers for a last rehearsal, presentation and amplifier engineering are available for the choirs.

Concerts in churches and church services in Prague and in the surrounding gives you an impression of the daily life of the Czech people. The foreign parishes also look forward to visits of choirs from their native country. And there are traditional church concerts with several choirs are mainly in the St Nicholas Church in the heart of Prague, built from 1732-1737.

Farewell dinners with Bohemian food, Pilsen beer, dance and songs are forming the farewell dinner in the brewery cellar of the Monastery Strahov, only a few steps beside the Prague Castle. After this evening, it is difficult for all choirs to say Good bye to the Golden Town of Prague!
