International highlights for choirs

Cantate Dresden / Germany

  • Information
+++10th anniversary of the consecration of the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) in 2015+++Short performances in the Church of Our Lady of all participating choirs of the Cantate Dresden possible+++
    Dear singers, dear guests
A warm welcome to the 3rd Cantate Dresden 2015 in the Baroque art and cultural capital of Saxony.
Dresden as the home of great musicians and ensembles is since centuries one of the most important musically cities in Germany. Our festival with choirs from different nations will bring more colours to the traditional music.
We invite you to enjoy the hospitality of Saxony, the historical centre of the city with the Castle, Zwinger, Church of Our Lady and many more historical buildings and to decorate those sights with your voices.
The musical director of the famous State Orchestra in Dresden and composer Richard Wagner described the uniqueness of our singing as follows: "The oldest, truest and most beautiful organ of music, the institution to which our music alone owes its existence, is the human voice."
I look forward to your voices in Dresden
     Matthias Hieke
President of the Choir Union of Eastern Saxony
Through the last century the Saxonian metropolis has developed to one of Germany's most attractive cities. The old towns preserved buildings, the famous rebuilt „Frauenkirche“ (Church of Our Lady), the pedestrian zones on both river banks, and a diverse food service industry attracts thousands of tourists and visitors daily from around the world.
From the 13th century on, the city became an electoral and later a royal residence of the republic of Saxony.  Today, the city is not only the states capital but also its cultural, academic and economic center of the region. After the disastrous destruction during world war II, the city passed through many years of rebuilding and refurnishing with the highlight of a fully reconstructed „Frauenkirche“ (Church of Our Lady) which opened its gates again in 2005 and which is the place for short performances during the festival.
Friendship concerts in and around Dresden and a common concert are the musically highlights, followed by a Saxonian dinner with all choirs.
