The south Swedish province Smaland presents 5000 lakes between untouched woods, mooses, wooden churches and crystal glass. The most beautiful season in the native country of Astrid Lindgreen is the midsummer if it never gets really dark and the Swedes celebrate the midsummer event. The city of Vringstad is one of the centres in Smaland and situated between Copenhagen/Malmö and Stockholm.

The musical event starts with a friendship concert of several foreign choirs at a Swedish guest choir or surrounding. The Midsummer Festival follows in Eksjö at a nearby midsummer tree and in the centre of this village with a 600 years history. The evening concert in a modern concert hall is followed by a farewell-dinner in the  with music.

You can come on several ways to Smaland: Exiting is the way by coach or train over the 16 km long Øresund-Bridge, followed by a 4 km long tunnel which connects Denmark and Sweden. From Northern Germany you can use several ferries during the day or by night. And a lot of flights are offered to Copenhagen, Goteborg or Stockholm. A good chance to visit some of these nice cities during the best time of the year!

The stay in Smaland can be extended in Malmö, Stockholm or/and Copenhagen. With guided tours, concerts and boat trips. Or visit a moose park to meet the king of the Swedish forests. There are still around 250 thousands of this mooses, up to 2 m high and to 500 kg heavy. Cantate Smaland is a wonderful way to understand more of the Swedish way of life and their traditions, where music is a basically part from.
